Think about it like attending college to get knowledge on management sciences to run your business smoothly or expand your capacity. The knowledge you purposefully embarked on gaining will shortly be pivotal in navigating your business through hurdles.

Subsequently, this same mindset is applicable to the journey to self-appreciation and love.  Therapy exists in different forms. However, their similar purpose is to help you navigate your mental hurdles.

One form of applying self-love and appreciation to yourself is through Positive affirmations.

On my personal journey of self-love

Surely, one of the most difficult things was saying good things to myself.

I actually had a nasty habit of constantly berating myself, calling myself, and putting the blame on myself for everything wrong. Simultaneously, I was angry at myself for making a mistake or losing my temper.

Similarly, whenever something terrible happened, I’d look myself in the eye and start insulting myself. Soon, these accumulated so much hatred for the world, and most especially myself, in my heart.

How do you expect nice things to happen when you use your mouth to stop them from happening? close doors of change?

I could never see myself as good enough, smart enough Most especially not beautiful enough. It’s not surprising that whenever I looked in the mirror, all I saw were the flaws on my face and my body.

Truth is, to this day I still struggle with accepting myself and all that I am. I fall into phases of wanting to say something mean to myself whenever something happens.

Undeniably, I’m better now. I’m not as overwhelmed by the urge to do unpleasant things to myself.  This happened through years of constantly fighting myself.

I started researching mental health care and thanks to retargeted ads, some of the right profiles found me. I started reading and watching videos on mental health care.

why positive affirmation matters to Self-love

When it comes to self-love, positive affirmations are quite necessary. It helps you put your mind in a better place, by using words to paint a remainder/ picture.

Every time the urge comes to say something so hurtful to yourself. This is the time you should actually apply what you’ve learned about self-love the most.

Firstly, you may fail. You have to go back again, forgive yourself, and continue on your path of growth.

Detaching from toxic habits is evidently challenging. It’s formerly your self definition. Now you have to throw that away for a better habit. It’s like moving on from a toxic friendship.

It’s especially hard and painful. Sometimes you want to go back to feel the false embrace of toxicity. Instead, you should want better for yourself. You should starve the need to go back to habits that make you hate yourself or feel numb to yourself.

Positive affirmations for self love are a reminder to be patient with yourself from time to time. Saying, declaring the things you want, and actively remembering the big picture.

Remember that nothing good is easy, especially if you’re tipping towards the darker side on the journey of achieving your grey balance, you can push yourself back to grey. You need all the help you can get to be a better person.

Generally, positive affirmations for self love are reminders of faith. It is a reminder of your humanity and your journey.

Faith is certainly a necessary ingredient in the recipe for self-appreciation.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines faith as;

allegiance to duty or a person…

fidelity to one’s promises…

belief and trust in and loyalty to God…

belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion…

firm belief in something for which there is no proof…

complete trust…

something that is especially with strong conviction.

Furthermore, the Christian Bible defines faith in Hebrew 11 vs 1 as the “…substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.

The word substance means physical material from which something is made or which has discrete existence (Merrian Webster).

Synonyms for the substance include medium, material, concrete, and corporeality.

Remember how I said faith is a very necessary ingredient in the recipe of self-appreciation (positive affirmation) and self-love?

Faith means giving life to the things you hope to have and achieve. Creating concreteness out of solid hope.

Faith is indeed what makes us humans because we can only control so much in life. And faith is backed by strong actions, not just mere words and blind belief.

Positive affirmations for self love are re-validations of hope.

To make an affirmation means to re-enact your will, your hope, your dream, and your vision, put a concreteness to it, materialize it, give it a real body, and give it life.

And what is life? When you grow a plant, you give it life. You further provide it with an environment where all its needs are met. Water, sunlight, carbon dioxide, and regular care.

You raise a child with kindness, love, patience, discipline, honesty, and gentleness. Nevertheless, no one outgrows that cycle. Even when children grow up to adulthood, they still need that love, patience, kindness, discipline, and support.

Since they’re so busy trying to give these to everyone else, they forget to give themselves as well. You really can’t give someone else a drink if your cup is empty and you have literally nothing as a reserve.

Overall, affirmations are important declarations to remind us that this is a journey to be enjoyed with patience, faith, love, and attention.

You can make them anytime, before bed, when you wake, before you go to work, before an interview, while relaxing, in the midst of a crisis, whenever.
