Intro

The journey to making brightening body oil.

I will admit, I have something of a fetish with hydrated and oiled supple skin. It’s beautiful to feel and look at. My obsession!

Skincare is one of the most beautiful forms of personal care in my opinion because I just feel great when I have good-looking skin. I remember turning my friends in university into my pet projects skincare, that must have annoyed them so much, I’m sorry!

One of my favorite skincare items is brightening body oil.

Subsequently, this article will sing to you the tales of its benefits on your skin especially. Also how to make them from the comfort of your home.

Evidently, I’m an advocate for doing as much of my consumable needs myself. Simply to avoid the risk of consuming unhealthy elements which could possibly affect my health in a negative way.

Moreover, learning how to make brightening Body Oil is less expensive when compared to store-bought ones. The Body oils brought from the stores left my skin feeling greasy. Other times, I felt very dry and scaly like a scaly-oily-dry-looking fish.

It was very important to me to make an oil that didn’t cause breakouts on my skin while doing its job. Specifically, an oil that wasn’t heavy and sticky on the skin. I hate heavy skin oils, it’s a drag to move over your skin and it always feels like it just lays there on the top of your skin, collecting dirt and greasing up, making you very uncomfortable.

What is the benefit of brightening body oil?

  • Body oils are hydrating to dry skin. Believe it, some oils have moisturizing functions, (e.g. coconut oil, rosehip seed oil marula oil olive, Argan oil, olive oil, etc.). Moisturizing your skin from the inside too by drinking water helps the skin radiate from the inside out and helps enhance the hydrating functions of oil.
  • Body oils relieve itching on the skin. My cousin had a bad case of mosquito bite allergy once and this affected her physical image so much. When she told me about it, I did my research and found that oils could be used to soothe itches on the external skin. We used coconut oil on those spots in a gentle relaxing manner and it helped her a lot.
  • Also, these oils are especially beautiful in the winter to help your skin fight against the harsh brittleness of the weather and also provide warmth.
  • Generally, this brightening body oil is clean and vegan. No added chemicals, no unknown elements, no diseases causing elements, no stabilizers or artificial elements.
  • In most cases, it is easily absorbed into the skin, they’re light and soft and enhance the looks of the skin.
  • Maintains a healthy appearance of the skin especially due to the healthy contents of the oils. They can be used to perform massages, especially warmed-up oils. I’m literally drooling at the thought of the feeling of warm oil on my moist skin in round soothing motions.
  • Great for fall and cold dry weather skincare regime.
  • They have aromatherapy benefits.
  • They maintain your skin’s elasticity and provide nutrients for your skin from the outside.

PS: I think it’s a bad idea to use oils during the summer without sunscreen except if you’re trying to get fried.  My personal opinion though.

Body oils as we know are made up of oils but not just any oil makes a body oil. The oil that makes the cut must have essential benefits and functions of body oil such as hydrating, healing, etc. Think of body oil as a healthy meal for your skin, from the outside.

P.S.: Healthy skin is also affected by what you consume in your system. Your whole health depends on what you eat. Healthy eating as a form of self-love and care.

Ingredients needed for skin-brightening body oil

The ingredients I use to make this DIY body oil include;

  • 500ml Coconut oil
  • 500ml Argan oil
  • 500ml Sesame oil
  • Orange peels of about 3 small oranges (cleaned). Buy online
  • 150ml Vegetable glycerine (for extra moisture) Get it from Amazon

Note: I have normal skin on my body. I don’t use body oils for my face because it’s more of an acne-prone and oily area. Since I’m combining more than one oil, some of the oils I’m using are not suitable for my face. Again, this is my personal opinion from my personal experiences. I do use oils on my face though, not a combination of oils but a single oil that serves a purpose for acne-prone, combination skin.

I used the following tools;

  • A clean saucepan is specifically not for food items.
  • A clean beaker for measurement
  • A wooden ladle for mixing
  • A fine strainer. Buy on $5.29
  • An empty clean bottle >1500mg, Get from Amazon $12.99.

Steps to make the DIY homemade skin-brightening body oil;

  • Wash your orange peel in hot water for about 5-10 minutes. Dry it on a drainer or something similar to reduce the water quantity.
  • In your clean saucepan, pour in your oils
  • Add orange peels to the oils
  • Heat over medium to low heat for 15 minutes
  • Stir continuously
  • Put down from heat and allow to cool
  • When cool, add vegetable glycerine and mix in singular motion for 5 minutes.
  • Strain into another clean dry bowl. Repeat the strain twice or as much as you desire.
  • Pour into your bottle and use moderately.

I hope you enjoy this recipe and enjoy the benefit of this brightening, hydrating mineral and vitamin-rich oil for your body and skin’s health.

Spending time to do something productive is a way to spend quality time with yourself, and practice selflove.
